Where Do We Belong (Lyric Video)

Here is the lyric video for “Where Do We Belong”

This song is one of my favourites of the latest new tracks I’ve recorded. It was inspired by the Apple TV+ show Dark Matter and the idea that there are an infinite number of alternate realities out there, each one featuring a slightly different version of our lives.

“A Promise” hits 1000 views!

I’m pleased to report that the video for “A Promise” has hit 1000 views on my YouTube channel. Pretty minuscule numbers for the great mega streamers of the world, but a decent milestone for a local artist like me, writing and releasing my own material. I must have got my tags right for this one!

I have another new song to release next week, so stay tuned for that.

A Promise (Lyric Video)

I’ve put together a lyric video for my new song “A Promise”

I’m not sure how I feel about these types of videos. Laying all your thoughts out so obviously. But once I’d finished it, I realised that these lyrics mean a lot to me and having them on screen with the music, makes them more powerful.

I’m trying to assemble a few tracks for a new EP that I can sell at future gigs. I plan on keeping the tracks pretty simple, as just voice and guitar, as that will be how I will be presenting them in a live situation. Stay tuned for more information and updates on that.

Run for our Lives (Acoustic)

Sometimes when I write a new song, I worry it’s a bit too obvious. Or that the chords are a bit too simple for me. That was certainly the case when I came up with this song “Run for our Lives”

As a guitarist, I like to have interesting (some would say over complicated) guitar parts. However, the chords here are pretty simple, but I’m trying to let the words and the melody do the work. That is definitely a new approach for me.

So I thought I’d share a performance of the song. At a recent gig, someone said it is a very catchy song, so I suppose it has done its job!

Recent solo gigs

Whilst The Nightwires are still gigging, I’m also trying to step up my number of solo gigs.

It’s a completely different feeling performing solo but I have to say, it’s giving this “jaded” musician, a bit of his mojo back! It’s been great playing some of my new songs and seeing which ones work best. I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the comments I’ve been getting, as my solo songs do tend to be on the sadder side of the positivity spectrum!

Thanks to all the people who have seen me perform recently in Loughborough, Wirksworth and at The Derby Folk Festival. Look out for updates on further solo shows soon.

All The Things (Acoustic)

Another new song!!

“All The Things” is one of my favourites to sing, out of this batch of new songs. It’s actually pretty simple in its structure, as it’s the same four chords all the way through. Despite the fact that I bemoan that very thing in most modern pop songs, sometimes simplicity wins. It’s all about the melodies and words. I do get slightly uncomfortable in laying out feelings and emotions so rawly, but hey ho. That’s what music is about for me.

New music – “Try to Forget”

Here is the official audio for my new track “Try to Forget”

This is the first finished recording, from the songs that I have been writing over the last few months. This one in particular, became a bit of a labour of love. It’s taken a lot of nerve for me to put my voice and lyrics so upfront, but sometimes you just have to go for it!

I will hopefully be doing a few solo shows over the coming months, in an attempt to try out some of these songs and see how they go. I’ve never been so prolific!
