Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a great Christmas.

I am now up and running with teaching again, so if you are after some lessons, please get in touch.

There are lots of great things coming up in the world of guitargeek including lots of new videos and also some new music. That’s if I can find time to actually finish some of the new material I have written!

As I write this, I am suffering from a severe case of post Christmas blues, a symptom of which is that I can’t find my motivation. I’m sure it will come back to me at some point with a bit of prodding. I’ve been sitting in my studio today, thinking that I need to completely change my gear, in order to find said motivation. Its a dangerous time!! I find myself looking at Telecasters in particular…

Happy Christmas 2015!

So, as we get towards the end of another year, I thought I’d share some new music. Call it my Christmas gift to you. I know, you’re overwhelmed.

This is a new track I started working on this week. I’m not sure what will come of it yet, and I may even attempt to sing over it myself. I have some lyrical ideas for it but I always struggle with writing a chorus. I do want to finish it in the next few weeks though as, I have a habit of getting songs nearly finished, but then I move onto the next idea. I have an albums worth of songs which are ALMOST finished. We’ll see what happens with those too.

And just another reminder to check out my Lessons page, if you are looking to arrange some tuition for the New Year.

As I approach the end of my first year of being a full time guitar tutor, I want to say a big thank you to all of my students and thank them for their hard work. We’ve had lots of successes and I’ve learnt a lot too, about being patient and also how little steps of progress, can bring a lot of joy. I think sometimes it’s easy for someone like myself, who has played the guitar for many many years, to underestimate how much it means to a beginner player, just to be able to change between two chords. That is a massive achievement for someone who may have only been playing for a few weeks.

Have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year and I’ll be back to bother you even more in 2016.

Getting a guitar for Xmas? Then get some lessons!

It’s that time of year, when people are either going to be getting a guitar for Christmas, or they will be buying one for a family member or friend.

If either of these applies to you, please get in touch about the tuition service I offer. I teach in your own home and I’m happy to provide lessons for complete beginners.

It can be a daunting experience when you first start playing but, by having lessons and reassurance from a qualified tutor, the chances of persevering through the initial difficult stages, are much higher.

Going Loopy Part 2

Here is my latest video, part of a semi regular series (its a year since the last one!!) where I play something using my TC Electronic Ditto looper.

I like this one a lot and its an idea that I think I can get a new song out of. I find using the Ditto can be quite inspirational but, at times, it can be hard to think what to play! I’m nowhere near as good at using it as some of the guys on youtube are, but when you hit the right idea, magic can happen!

My Pedalboard (and how I use it!)

Here is my latest video. I thought I’d do a run down of my current pedalboard, as I think I’m finally settled on the perfect setup. I’ve said that before, but I really like this combination. Although I do like the look/sound of the Wampler Tumnus and JHS AT pedal!

Anyway, if you want to watch me witter on for 13 minutes about guitar pedals, this is the video for you!!

Simon’s Shuffle…

Here is my latest video. I’ve had this little riff knocking around for a while, so I thought I’d see what I could do with it. I’m trying to keep my playing a little more “off the cuff” in these latest videos. Warts and all!! Sometimes, I feel my lead playing can be a bit too planned out.

Anyway, enjoy this one, there is a lot more to come…
